why take the time to capture your athleticism?

It's 5am, and you hear the alarm. You want to hit the snooze button, and have 10 more minutes of sleep, but you can't be late for practice. You get out of bed, and feel the tightness in your muscles from yesterday's session. You pull out your duffle bag and throw in your gear, water bottle, and sport fuel. In the kitchen, you go through the motions of making the breakfast smoothie with extra protein and greens. You don't have to think about it or negotiate with yourself because you do this five days a week. You are pulled towards your sport, not pushed. Every fibre in your being wants to improve technique, improve endurance and power, work harder and be smarter than your opponents.

But who gets to witness your dedication and passion? Who gets to witness how high you jump for the hit, how many dives off the blocks, how many fouettés in front of the mirror, or how many hill repeats? Just you, your coach, and your teammates. Sport can bring us the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows. Being at the cutting edge of your sport is a fragile position to be in. It's a fine balance to push the body to build to excellence, and avoid injury or burnout. All of the boxes have to be ticked...nutrition, sleep, rehab, mindset, consistency. You've done it, and you are an athlete at your core.

This is what I want to capture. Athletes doing the sport that gets them out of bed before dawn, and fills their dreams when they sleep. I want to capture your movement, your intensity, and your joy. I want you to have more than a medal and event t-shirt to remember your level of excellence. I want you to have a spectacular photo of yourself in the movement of your sport.

It's possible that I have never experienced your particular sport, but I know the feeling of setting that early alarm clock, finishing the workout when you don't know if it's possible, and waking up the next day because you want more. My job as your photographer is to learn about the movement in your sport and help you to capture that flash of athleticism to be admired in an image forever.
